Mt. Pisgah

May 23, 1996

A new trail at Mt. Pisgah is being planned to replace the steep portion of the Bridge Bowl Trail and keep it out of the wetland. Stewart Mulford of Friends of Buford Park and Mt. Pisgah too, Helen Liguori, Miriam Schafler and Dot Leader (trip leader) hiked over about one mile of the south leg of this trail. It starts at the West Summit trailhead (near the Arboretum) and goes in a north-westerly direction up into the upper part of the bowl. The west leg of the trail will start at Parrish Gate and will angle up across the west slope of the bowl. This will make a nice loop trail. We continued on up to the top — had lunch and came back down along the West Slope Trail. This trail is in poor condition and will need repair. The wild flowers we especially enjoyed seeing were pink wild hollyhock (sistalcea campestris) and corn salad (plectritis congesta).
