Cape Perpetua Old GrowthMarch 17, 1996The Obsidian way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to hike a beautiful green forest. This trip focused on the awesome old growth Sitka Spruce trees in the Cape Perpetua area. Specifically we hiked the Cummins Creek/Gwynn Creek loop — which fortunately has just been reopened after the widespread winter storm damage. Also thrown into the hike was a short shore walk from the Sprouting Horn to the Devil’s Churn and back. And all without a single sip of Guinness stout! However, we did indulge in the fine coffee and pastry at Yachat’s wonderful New Morning Cafe. Joining me (Bill Montgomery) on this spectacular clear, sunny day at the coast were Blyth Carpenter, Kevin Clark, Rita Johnson, Kris Kennedy, Gary Marx, Sam Miller, Ralph Olive, Dick & Lucy Rayle, Joanne Vinton and Joan Wilder. |
