Yachats-NewportMarch 9, 1996Nineteen hikers enjoyed this beach walk. The route follows a trail for approximately half a mile and the settles into about seven miles on the beach. There are a number of run-off streams to cross. We returned to the highway once to cross a bridge only about 70 yards from the beach. The weather cooperated; only light sprinkles as the walk was completed. A special thanks to the seven who repeated from the last year (and the rain deluge we then experienced). The turnout for this trip the last three years (average 19) is very much appreciated. This is one hike where the more the merrier — the wide, smooth beach would easily accommodate a much larger group than ours. Walkers quickly formed into pairs, trios, etc. — great for conversations on nature, literature, music or personal histories. Beach hikers were David Becker, Paige Boyle, Ginny Busey, Wendy Clarke, Melanie Clasen, Gloria Gunderson, Merlin Hill, Mary Holbrot, Margaret Malsch, Gary Marx, Ralph Olive, Garry Paulson, Dick & Lucy Rayle, Gerry Roe, Ivan Vandeberg, Herb Whitman, Joan Wikler and leader Ben Jeffries. |
