South Sister & Broken TopAugust 10-11, 1996The mountain marathon was again a great success, certainly not because of the crush of climbers but because of the quality of the mini-group. One climber quit the Broken Top climb near the summit and had to also skip the South Sister because of physical problems. My weekend was a leader’s dream. Great weather and a small party (really small, one person), a strong, great climbing companion that really enjoyed making two summits for the first time. Beautiful. This year was also memorable for the incredible amount of snow remaining in August. Climbing and sliding on snow sure beats stumbling along on boulders when you are going up and down this hill. Red Ridge was snow free, so it wasn’t all a slide! Climbers were: David Becker, Gerry Roe and Ed Lovegren (leader). |
