(Ray Benson) South Loop
January 30, 1995
This trip was listed for beginners, but five experienced Obsidians showed up!
We decided to check out the Maxwell Butte SnoPark.
After an hour of skiing on crusty snow we left for better conditions and found them at Ray Benson.
Here the snow was great — fresh snow on the trails!
But, the beauty of the day was the hoar frost formed from the freezing vapor of drifting fog.
This had created a beautiful scene — everything was covered with white feathery crystals
of ice (like rime ice in miniature).
It was a unique fairyland experience on the sixmile South Loop Trail for Norm Benton,
Rose Marie Moffitt, Royal Murdock, Vehna Shirk and Dot Leland, leader.
