South Slough Estuarine ReserveJanuary 29, 1995Being Superbowl Sunday, this was a particularly good day to go to the coast. Almost nobody else was on the road! We stopped at Elkton for baked goods and coffee, and again at Dean Creek Elk reserve to observe the resident elk herd, and finally at the Estuary, which we had completely to ourselves. We hiked the full extent of the Estuary’s trails — which took all of a few hours at a very leisurely pace. We observed many birds such as Buffleheads and Canvasbacks, and a solitary Loon. We also stopped in at Shore Acre’s beautiful garden and observed sea lions and a few elephant seals along the coast. Joining me (Bill Montgomery) were Jane Hackett, Rita Johnson, Ralph Olive and Joanne Vinton. |
