Cowhorn Mountain

September 10, 1995

It was a perfect day for a fall hike and spectacular views. While sitting on top of Cowhorn, we watched helicopters and planes circling a nearby smoky area. Six smoke jumpers parachuted into the trees. Unfortunately, we forgot our binoculars! Back at the Windigo Pass trailhead, we met a hiker who saw the smoke jumpers on the trail. He said that one of the jumpers broke his leg and they were attempting a helicopter rescue. On Cowhorn Mt. were Max Brown, Jim Fritz, Chuck Mitchell, Clare Tucker, Janet Jacobsen and John Jacobsen (trip leader).
