South Waldo (Huckleberry Fields)
September 9, 1995
On a gray morning, 12 hikers set out on a 10-mile hike to find the huckleberry fields at the
south end of Waldo Lake.
The early part of the trip provided mist and light rain.
Due to the chilly, wet weather we set a record for the shortest Obsidian lunch break
(under eight minutes).
However, the sun came out after lunch and we then ate and picked huckleberries for nearly two hours.
A great trip was had by all and several hikers picked enough berries for pies.
Hikers included Obsidians Dave Predeek, Dick Hildreth, Gary Marx and Anne McLucas
and non-members Lucy & Dick Rayle, Kurt Cyrus, Abby Burtone, John Pealen,
and Richard & Alysia Ogden.
Trip leader: Bob Hill.
