Olallie MountainJuly 16, 1995Twelve enthusiastic Obsidians and friends hiked to the intact fire lookout at the top of Olallie Mountain on an absolutely clear and sunny Sunday. In addition to perfect weather, numerous wildflowers were in bloom. We were all especially enchanted by a pair of cascade lilies right alongside the trail. We rested by a magnificent Douglas fir that it took the outstretched arms of seven hikers to encircle the trunk. From the lookout, our view stretched from Mt. Hood to Diamond Peak. All of us stopped at the Carpenters’ house on the McKenzie on the way home for lemonade, cookies, blueberries and storytelling. The group included Leslie & Jim Mooney, Max Brown, Anne Dhu McLucas, Bob Lemon, Susan Baker, Herb Waltman, Yazman Zupa, Heidi Ames, Matt Sroboda and Russ & Blyth Carpenter (leaders). |
