This is such a lovely hike — and only one hour from home!
Long, easy switch backs through wonderful old growth, small creeks, the forest floor carpeted to
solid green with huge Oxalis and ferns.
The trail enters from the west, we skip then half mile to the top of Tire Mountain (no view),
going instead to a large volcanic meadow filled with wildflowers for a total of 12 miles.
My thanks to the Reuls for sharing this lovely trail with me, to Sylvia Harvey and Bonnie Manheim
(Welcome home, Bonnie!) for scouting it with me, and to a great, enthusiastic crew of hikers:
Non-members Gerry Paulsen and Jim Fritz, and Obsidians Carolyn Kompanik, Ralph Olive, Cheryl Berry,
Tim Verkler and Tim Cook.
Oh yes, a thousand thanks to Tim V. for getting a filthy van, thereby leaving my vehicle in town
— pristine and beautiful!
Leader (of sorts): Sharon Ritchie.
