Tidbits Mountain

Reaching the trailhead involved a long, winding, climbing drive on a dirt road beyond the north end of Blue River Reservoir. The hike led us through a lovely old growth forest strewn with flowering rhododendrons, bear grass and other plants. Just beyond the mid point, we crossed several small snow drifts across the trail. Near the top of a rocky pinnacle were weathered remnants of the former fire lookout tower. After scaling the last 30 vertical feet we were greeted with commanding views from this mile-high mountain top. We saw the string of snow-capped peaks from Mt. Hood to Mt. Bachelor. Participating were Sharon Lindsley, Julie Schutte, Herbert Whitman, Ann Montgomery, Mardi Klotz, Joanne Ledet, Peter Fernandez, Janet Levine, W. Szalecki, Dave Strahn, Mary Millman, with leader Jean Ridone.
