Even though I assured Marc there would not be snow, there was snow! The trees were beautiful and the top part of the trail had about half-an-inch of snow. We started at the saddle and the first part of the trail has salal and Oregon grape that needs to be trimmed back; otherwise it is an excellent trail. No rain, but the clouds and fog obscured the wonderful view of the mountains. Obsidian hikers Marc Hansen, John & Lenore McManigal had never been on Castle Rock, so trip leader Catherine Jones encouraged them to go back again on a clear day.
