Finley Wildlife RefugeApril 18, 1995We entered the Refuge by driving down Bruce Rd, and were delighted to find 5,000 cackling geese feeding in a field nearby. Normally, the Refuge is open by April 15, but because of this flock of birds opening day was postponed for a week. We did however stop at the Fiechter House, the Old Barn and Park H.Q, and had lunch under the big oak tree along the Woodpecker Loop. After lunch we hiked the Mill Hill Loop and were shocked to see a large clear-cut on the hillside along Grey Creek Swamp. The leader, Dot Leland, enjoyed her 25th annual Finley trip with Elissa Kasen, Helen Liguori, Bonnie Jean Nielsen, Harold Schyberg and Carol Wayne. |
