Mt. Thielsen

We met at SEHS at 6:00 am, then again at the trailhead at 8:45. We were on the trail at 9:10 and speed-hiked the 3½ miles to the Ridge in 1 hr. 35 min. Then we continued hiking up the scree slope until noon when we took a 20-minute lunch break about quarter of a mile from the base of the cone, and all climbed to the peak without ropes. We spent 45 minutes lounging on top in cool, overcast weather. With thunderstorms predicted for later in the day, we exited the peak and hiked back to the parking lot, just ahead of the rain and swarms of mosquitoes, arriving back at 4:00 pm. Climbers were non-members Jeff Boersema, Chuck Wyon, Ian Ives, Greg Milliman, Drew Lardinoff, Chris Miller and Brian Hoyland (did not summit), and Obsidians Josh Ladau, Robert Langridge, Richard Lemon and climb leader Buzz Blumm.
