“The day loomed dark and dreary … ”
Actually, it was a typical overcast, drippy winter day.
Everyone who signed up showed up — anxious to hike under any conditions!
We were very fortunate. The rain held off throughout the hike. Just occasional sprinkles.
We did encounter “brisk” winds at the top of the ridge.
A short stop at the Visitors’ Center, another short stop at Devil’s Churn (where we
got absolutely soaked), then on to the highlight of the day … an invitation to
Birgitte Williams’ new home on top of a hill overlooking the ocean in Yachats.
What a treat! Birgitte gave us wonderful things to snack on and outstanding hot chocolate (not instant).
We got to troop through her house, stuff our faces and ooh! and aah! at the ocean view.
My very sincere thanks to our hostess, Birgitte, and to non-member hikers Van Likes
and Valdas Anelauskas.
Thanks also to Obsidian hikers Teresa Ladd, Mardi Klotz, Gary Marx and Dave Predeek.
