Tahkenitch DunesMarch 12, 1994A warmer than usual day was the setting for this hike. Most of the Eugene contingent met the Cottage Grove contingent at Carl’s Jr. from whence we drove via Drain and Reedsport, which is a picturesque road. Lynn caught up with us there. She had been delayed by a wreck on Hwy. 101. We got to Threemile Lake for lunch and got the treat of watching an otter swimming around, then climbing up to sun itself on a log and finally swimming back. A couple of loons also graced the lake as well as some ducks. In the forest on the way to the lake the skunk cabbage was in full bloom, and in the filtered sunlight were a beautiful sight. The walk back along the beach was windless, our conversation enjoyable and the run down the transverse dune topped the day. Of course on the way home a stop for ice cream was made by Doris Allen, Lynn Baizley. Shirley Cameron, Jo Chambers, Melanie Clasen, Amber Corsello, Karen Kempf, Anne Montgomery, Sig Otto, Virginia Prouty, Bonnie Van Cott and Shirley Froyd, leader. |
