Maiden PeakJanuary 9, 1994Six well-prepared skiers left the SEHS parking lot at 7:30 a.m. with an ambitious goal: the top of 7800' Maiden Peak. The route left the Willamette Pass ski area parking lot on the Rosary Lakes Trail. Recent snows made it necessary to break trail early on. The path to Maiden Lake was followed for a short distance and then broken off from toward the peak. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line and that was the one taken. Fortunately, all but one had skins which allowed for swift progress. Everyone made it to the peak by 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, the clouds and blowing snow prevented any possibility of a view. However, all shared in the feeling of accomplishment. The telemarking off the top was fantastic. The ski out on the Rosary Lakes Trail was also interesting. Thanks to all for making the leader’s first guided trip such a success. Skiers included Denis Biesekin, Giles Healey, Dick Hildreth, Gary Hughes, Ruby Seitz and leader James Schick. |
