Fall Creek Trail

September 25, 1994

The Eugene Celebration had more appeal than a hike on the Fall Creek Trail for many, it seems. As a consequence, just three of us showed up on a gorgeous Sunday morning. My game plan to hike from the Dolly Varden Campground to Road Junction 1828 was scrapped because that required a two-car shuttle arrangement. Instead, we hiked from Dolly Varden to the Johnny Creek Campground, had lunch, and returned over the same route. I was pleasantly surprised with the water volume in Fall Creek after such a dry summer. Furthermore, the leaf canopy over the trail was still very much intact, negating a need for the sun screen we had applied at the outset. The “elite” trio that enjoyed this outing consisted of Liz DeShelter, Rita Johnson and Vernon Barkhurst, leader.
