Mt. Ray Trail/Shadow Bay

August 13, 1994

How is it that the ghosts of so many people of the past presented themselves all on one trip? — Indian Charlie Tufti and Oakridge trapper Frank Dompier (1903), Judge John Waldo (1889), Ranger Cy Bingham (1904), Ranger Archie Knowles (1905), Ranger Smith Taylor and Superintendent C.B. Harvey (1908); add to that list three sheepmen (1916, 1917 and 1918). The hikers were in perhaps better shape than the trip leader, which put us ahead of time so that a half-hour swim in South Waldo Lake was in order. It all adds up to a guarantee that another trip like this will be in order next year! Hikers were Vanae Bigham, Cathy Carter, Brigitte Cross, Minnie Deloach, Jeanne Hall, Chris Mattheisen, Hank Plant, Sig Otto, Mike & Velma Shirk and Bob Cox, leader.
