Cone Peak/Iron Mountain Loop
July 6, 1994
A great time was had by 18 hardy hikers and photographers on a very warm, sunny day.
We casually ambled through Cone Peak meadows as we admired the layers of sedums and flowers
which were tucked into every ledge and cranny in the barren basaltic boulders.
The whole sight was so beautiful that we finally decided to enjoy a leisurely lunch among
the hundreds of wildflowers.
After lunch we hiked up to Iron Mountain lookout to a breathtaking view.
There was so much to see, from Hood in the north to the Three Sisters in the east,
and from the surrounding layered strata to the multitude of flowers at our feet.
Perhaps the most pleasant find, however, were the rare shaggy barked Alaska Cedar trees.
Hikers were George Jeffcott, Royal Murdock, Clare Tucker, Chuck Mitchell, Velma Shirk, Aaron Novick,
George Hermach, Dot Leland, Valdas Anelauskas, Jim Fritz, Mary Ann Hanson, Theona Jessen,
Betsy, Andy & Stacey Halpern, Jo & Sara Walsh and leader Diane Jeffcott.
