Veneta Bike RideApril 17, 1994Ten brightly garbed, optimistic bikers left Campbell Senior Center at 10:00 on Sunday morning. We rode through the amateurs on the bike path to our first stop, Fern Ridge Reservoir. The lake sported one sailboard and many craft. After a quick snack we remounted and traveled the newly paved and widened Clear Lake Rd. to Territorial Rd. and our lunch stop in Veneta. Our spirits were rising as the goose bumps left our bare legs and we could see the sun beginning to shine in earnest. After lunch we followed Perkins Rd. through beautiful farmlands, complete with livestock. After a short gravel stretch we attacked our only serious hill (all acquitted themselves well) and coasted into West Eugene and the final ten miles to town. Participants were Bob Devine, Guenther Fuernsteiner, Noma Lockyear, Rose Marie Moffitt and Allan Sorenson. Guests: Mary Bremner, Warren Kadas, and Helen Martz. Trip leader was Gayle Berge. |
