Tahkenitch Creek LoopApril 3, 1994Easter, April 3, was a good day for the hike, especially on a new trail that follows the meandering of Tahkenitch Creek. Hikers met early on the first day of Daylight Saving Time and headed to the coast. The turn to the Tahkenitch Creek trailhead is about two miles south of the Dunes Overlook turn-off and is very well marked. The loop trail has signs in key spots with “You Are Here” indicators. After several miles following the creek the trail joins the trails from Tahkenitch campground. Hikers continued on to Threemile Lake for lunch. Then, following the posts with blue circles to the beach, the group headed north to rejoin the Creek trail. We returned to the trailhead on the inland part of the loop. The Tahkenitch Creek Loop is approximately four miles with the additional side trip to Threemile Lake adding another three-mile loop. Enjoying the day were Rob Becker, Blyth & Russ Carpenter, Barbara Chinn, Bob Hill, Rita Johnson, Bonnie Manheim, Gary Marx and leader Mary Ellen West. |
