McKenzie River TrailFebruary 27, 1993We had a small group, only three people, non-members Myrna Peterson and Eileen Sprague and leader Ben Jeffries; two individuals who had signed the trip registration form failed to show. We left S.E.H.S. at 8:15. The trail was covered by snow the full route. Walking, however, was easy. The deepest snow was approximately 12 inches. Many deer tracks were seen. No animals or other people were encountered. A few new downed trees required brief detours from the trail. We lunched at the Belknap Hot Springs Lodge area. Our lunch spot provided a good view of the river and four hot spots. For a $3 fee it is possible to use the Lodge’s heated pool for one hour. Parking was available at McKenzie Ranger Station. |
