Odell Butte

January 31, 1993

The planned Beals Butte trip had to be changed to Odell Butte due to the snow completely blocking the entrance into Beals Butte Road. Our group of six skiers left Eugene at 8:30 and arrived at our destination under sunny skies and warm temperatures. The trail had been broken for almost two miles because of the efforts of the scouting party the week before. We had a good work-out climbing steadily to the 7,000 ft. level of the top for our lunch break. What a wonderful vista of mountains and lakes we enjoyed! When it was time to leave we had to carefully side-step down the steepest part of the mountain. A crust had formed on the snow, creating a fast ski-out to the cars … fast except for the leader, who fell a few too many times! All agreed we had a great day and an aerobic work-out. Skiers were Barbara Bakke, Chris Christensen, Dave Predeek, Chris Steele, Jan White and leader Sandra Larsen.
