Captain Cook LoopJanuary 17, 1993Determined to escape the continuing fog and ice, a small band (very small, three!) left Eugene at 9 a.m. Halfway to the coast we were greeted with spots of “blue sky”. The coast was wonderful. Warm sun, blue water and only a slight breeze. We were joined at the trailhead by Mary and Maria. A very leisurely stroll up the Captain Cook Loop with lunch at the top (in shirt-sleeves), then a slow walk down the Gwynne Creek Trail with many stops to discuss and admire all of the old growth. Actually, it was such a beautiful day, no one was in a hurry to have it end! After a quick side trip to Devil’s Churn, the Eugene contingent headed homewards with a much anticipated stop at B.J.’s for ice cream. My delightful Sunday companion were non-member Maria Duska and members Ben Elkus, Mary Holbert, and Gary Marx. Sharon Ritchie, leader. |
