Sand MountainJanuary 17, 1993Sand Mountain was the destination for our group as we left the Willamette Valley fog for blue skies and blustery winds. Our goal was the top of Sand Mountain; however, after breaking trail through deep, wind-blown snow, we decided to ski in the relative calm plateau between Sand Mountain and its adjacent scree heaps. Several members of the group traversed to the top of one such heap and were treated to teeth-chattering winds and great views. Lots of dry snow on a firm base made for a quick return to the cars. Leader Sam M. was accompanied by Chris S., Glenn M., Martin W, Jack H., Norma L., Ruby S. and Doris A. We Obsidians are all on a first-name basis, you know! |
