Mt. June

November 21, 1993

Ten eager hikers challenged the elements and Mt. June on a cool, cloudy November day. Situated above Lookout Point Reservoir, Mt. June affords the visitor a fine view of the Cascades to the east as well as the south end of the Willamette Valley. The three miles of trail to the summit climbs through a beautiful Douglas fir and hemlock forest with rhodies part of the understory. The short drive and low elevation trail is what makes Mt. June convenient to experience throughout the year. This Obsidian group lucked out by staying dry until snow started falling as we returned to our cars. Luck was again on our side as we had Anne Montgomery to guide us to the trail head and on the trail with its many junctions. While we almost lost Rose Malone at one junction, we all made it back. Before we left we all concluded a stop for sweet treat at the Pleasant Hill DQ was a “must”. We all had the gift to gab at the restaurant as the rain came down in buckets. Participating on the hike were Jane Dods, Andy Dunadin, Gary Marx, Anne Montgomery, Rose Malone, Sally Quigley, David Szamlewicx, Margee Wright, Jerry Wojick and Kevin Clark, leader.
