No bad weather to add interest or excitement to this year’s Eel Creek trip.
But, perfect weather for a day of beach walking and viewing the dunes.
Clear and cool with a brisk breeze from the north.
It was a one-way trip this year out over the dunes.
Bob Dark supplied shuttle service so this large group could enjoy the three-mile walk along the beach
to the South Jetty near the Umpqua lighthouse.
The ocean was a beautiful blue with large waves rolling in and lots of white foam along the beach.
The usual activities that accompany this trip — a stop at Arlene’s in Elkton for coffee
and snacks as well as a stop at Dean Creek Elk Refuge — went off without a hitch.
Two large herds of elk were sunning themselves near the refuge turnout.
The day was complete with a stop at Mo’s in Florence for chowder for a majority of the people
along for the day.
Eel Creek trippers were Dallas & Jack Cole, Bob Dark, Nancy Fadeley, Amy & Fred Foust,
Bea Fontana, Ray & Rita Jensen, Rose Malone, Glenn Meares, Ray Mikesell, Anne Montgomery,
Bill Montgomery, Karl Nestvold, Dave Predeek, Gene Thaxton, Megan & Margee Wright
and leader Jane Hackett.
