Browder RidgeJuly 11, 1993The Corvallis and Eugene groups met at Clear Lake and proceeded on to the Gate Creek Trailhead for the hike to Browder Ridge. The first part of the hike was up a steep switch backed trail lined with beautiful blooming rhodies. From this area, we entered an old growth stand of Douglas firs, mountain hemlock and Engelmann spruce. The largest tree we saw was a little over 7 ft. in diameter … it took five of us, with fingertips touching, to circle it. Further up the ridge we hiked through fern meadows with a large variety of wildflowers and, of particular note, large fields of flowering bear grass. Up on the ridge we were treated to spectacular views of the Cascades and surrounding area. Those enjoying the trip were Wendy Kimball, Linda Justason, Virginia Prouty, Corrine Hunt, Gene Thaxton, Bea Fontana, Denise Sevigny, Sandy Ing, Teri Fairman, Mary Jane Baffin, and leaders Barbara & Edward Trione. |
