Rebel Rock Loop
June 26, 1993
This year marked the ninth running of the famous, ever popular Rebel Rock Loop
“Death March” (the What? Where? by Who?).
Everything started out completely predictably.
Like always, the leader puttered around and hung up the waiting group at the trailhead,
and the trip report is only 11 months late!
(I guess there won’t be a flower and bird report because I can’t remember seeing any.)
From sketchy notes we know the following happened:
Left Rebel Creek trailhead 10:00 a.m. Hiked up Rebel Creek Trail.
Arrived at the 5-mile junction in 1 hr. 50 min. (John strolled up in 1 hr. 20 min.)
Part of the group arrived later. Left junction about 1:00 p.m.
Ray elected to take the trail traversing around Rebel Mountain for a less rude route and had a
long wait for the Jack Rabbit crowd.
Reached Rebel Rock base 2:25 via cross-country uphill crash route and rock scramble.
Spectacular weather and view. Left Rebel Rock at 2:55. Climbed to top of Rebel Mountain.
Hiked down ridge to rock outcropping view point on route to rejoining the trail.
Detour to lookout, brief stop. Four-mile downhill slog to cars. Arrived 6:00. Whew! (end of notes).
A great trip with a great group once again. Some leaders have all the luck!
Trip companions were: John Englehart, Marc Hansen, Ray Mikesell, John Pilafian, Karin Thompson,
Tim Verkler, and Ed Lovegren (leader).
