Iron Mountain/Cone PeakJune 19, 1993We had a spectacular day for a spectacular hike to Iron Mountain. When hiking via Cone Peak Trail to Iron Mountain, this trail has a wonderful diversity of scenery. At lower levels, in old growth forest, there were trillium, bleeding hearts and a variety of little yellow and white flowers. At higher levels there were Alpine meadows with Indian paintbrush, purple larkspur and many other sun-loving wild flowers. From the top of Iron Mountain we could clearly see Mt. Bachelor, the Sisters, Mt. Washington, Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood, and far in the distance we could barely make out Mt. Rainier. On the other side of Iron Mountain we were reminded of Oregon’s donation to the timber industry. Three Obsidians and four guests made the trip. They were Doris Allen, Jean Anderson, Robyn Crawford, Anne Dhu McLucas, Linda Prefontaine, Denise Sevigny and Sandy Moore, leader. |
