Twin LakesJune 13, 1993Four people (two Obsidians and two non-members) met me at the Del Rey Cafe off I-5, Exit 129. Traveling up the North Umpqua Hwy. and onto F.S. Road 4770, we arrived at the trailhead. About a quarter of a mile up, we ran into a large blowdown tree across the trail. The day for hiking was perfect and there were many yellow avalanche lilies, white trilliums and lavender lady slippers in bloom as the snow had not been gone long. On the upper trail to Overlook View the snow was still covering most of the trail. We all took it slow, and reached the view point for lunch. Great view, sunny, warm, and of course a few mosquitoes. After lunch we went down to the lake where some people were camping at the shelter. They had snow two days before, but it melted right off. We then headed back. On the trip were Ben Elkus, Teresa Ladd, Bob Eiffert, Teresa Femes and leader Lloyd Plaisted. |
