Marion Mountain

June 12, 1993

After weeks of rain, Saturday, June 12, was born with a clear sky and eventual temperatures in the 70s. Several cancellations reduced the number of hikers to 10 for the Marion Mountain hike. Following a two-hour, 100-mile drive to the trailhad, we were somewhat surprised by the large number of vehicles at the trailhead. Fortunately, they were predominantly Fisherpersons (politically correct term) leaving the trail to us. We first passed Lake Ann and its gurgling subterranean outlet, and at mile 3.0 reached Marion Lake — a large lake dotted with inflated boats. Another 2.6 miles brought us to the 5351-ft. rocky, snow-free summit of Marion Mountain. We were greeted by a spectacular view across Marion Lake to Mt. Jefferson and Three Fingered Jack, all set off by crystal clear skies and 70-degree temperature. We were all entertained by the jokes of Buzz Blumm … ask him to tell the one about the Blind Snake and Blind Rabbit … on the return hike! Non Obsidians were Bob Eiffert and Rich Scram; Obsidians were John Pilafian, Marty Hathaway, Virginia Prouty, Kristen Kaminski, Buzz Blumm, Don Orton and Trip Leaders Chuck & Sandy Reul.
