Hardesty Mountain TrailJuly 17, 1993Obsidians Velma Shirk and Ray Jensen joined with a group from the Llama Coalition, plus volunteers from R.E.I., for trail maintenance on the Hardesty Mountain Trail on Saturday, July 17. Major repairs were accomplished on the steep switch back section, including tread work and installing barrier logs and water dams. A unique addition to our task force were two working llamas and two young trainee yearlings. These animals were fascinating and performed heavy work hauling lumber and big rocks. Alice, a lively English springer spaniel, was a delightful friend for all of us. Sue Baker (Lowell Ranger District, USFS) directed our work on this cool, dry day. |
