Walker MountainMarch 7, 1992Once again, Walker Mountain came to the rescue as a substitute for my annual Beales Butte ski trip! The advantage is that in a low snow year it is possible to drive up the lower three miles of Walker Mountain to Road 9402. From that point there is skiable snow for three miles to the lookout at 7080 ft. elevation. It is a two-hour drive from Eugene to the starting point so we put our skis on at 10 a.m. and reached the lookout at noon for lunch in the sunshine with great views. After a great gentle downhill return to the van by 2:30, we were ready for pie and coffee at the “Wheel” in Chemult. The six pie-eating Obsidians skiers (who returned to Eugene at 5:00 p.m.) were Chuck Mitchell, Anne Montgomery, Royal Murdock, Sharon Ritchie, Clare Tucker and Wes Prouty, leader. |
