Sand MountainJanuary 19, 1992Our group of 11 skiers began their Sunday morning sojourn under clear skies and balmy temperatures from the Sno-Park at Little Nash Crater. Within two hours we were traversing the icy lower slopes of Sand Mountain, well on our way to the summit lookout. After 3+ miles (and countless snow-mobiles) we arrived at the top of this centrally-located scree heap. What a great place for lunch! The views included Hood, Jefferson, Jack, Washington, and the Three Sisters. After a rapid descent on soft snow, the group practiced their skiing skills for several miles. Everyone managed to make it back to the parking lot with all their limbs intact. It was a great day and the great group consisted of Mari Baldwin, Dennis Bigsecker, Jan & John Jacobsen, Anne Montgomery, Mariner Orum, Jon Tressler, Lenya Treewater, Chris Steele, Martha Walters and Sam Miller (leader). |
