Gwynn Creek/Captain Cook’s LoopJanuary 12, 1992A promise of “more fog in the valley and sunshine at the coast” kept the sign-up sheet growing until late the night before the hike. Seventeen signed, 16 went, for what proved to be a lovely day. The sun kept trying to come out, but at least we had no fog or rain! We reversed the hike, going up Captain Cook’s Loop and down Gwynn Creek. It is a really lovely trail and shouldn’t be missed. Anne Montgomery and Gary Marx found us a perfect lunch spot on the knoll with lots of logs and moss to sit on. We finished up the hike with a quick tour of the Visitor Center at Cape Perpetua and Devil’s Churn for those new to Oregon and then invaded “Mo’s” for the traditional chowder and coffee. Many thanks to Bob Dark for the use of his “bus” and my personal thanks to all who went out of their way to make our newcomers feel so welcome!
