Jones TrailJanuary 5, 1992A rather large group (of 15) gathered for the difficult Jones Trail hike on 5 January, 1992. Perhaps the size was a reflection of New Year’s resolutions, cabin fever or just “no snow on the slopes”! After a short drive to Fall Creek, we hiked about half-a-mile on the Fall Creek Trail to the takeoff of the Jones Trail. It is a steady uphill hike through old growth forest, gaining 2,000 feet. After 5½ miles an open meadow provides a welcome respite and a pleasant view. Our reservation was in order as the sun broke out and we ate lunch in our shirt sleeves. A chilling mist crawled up out of the valley and brought an end to our lunch and sent us back down the trail. Happy hikers included non-Obsidians Bill Hemphill, Mary Holbert, Doris Atley, Fredric Kropp and Laura Girardeau, and Obsidians Parker & Kathy Riddle, Sharon Ritchie, Virginia Prtouty, Gary Marx, Glenn Meares, Bob Dark, Clare Tucker and Sandy & Chuck Reul (group leaders). |
