Mary's Peak, elevation 4,097 ft., is located southwest of Corvallis.
Originally called Mouse Mountain in fur trapping days, it is the highest mountain in the
Oregon Coast Range north of the Coquille River.
Elevation gain of 2,500 feet occurred over 4.5 miles on the trail reached from Woods Creek Road.
Fall colors, great weather and the unusual forest consisting of spruce, fir and hemlock highlighted
the leisurely hike.
Crows soaring on air currents and a wide variety of industrious insects entertained the hikers
at lunch on top.
Enjoying the view of the ocean, high Cascades, and points between were Mary Holbert, Gerhard Hoffman,
Virginia Prouty and Sylvia Harvey (leader).
