Two well balanced car loads of hikers departed the SEHS parking lot at the appointed time under
very favorable weather conditions.
Despite a rest stop programmed en route we were at trailhead on time when it was learned that a
couple of members of the group had containers without water.
The main body of hikers moved out slowly enabling the deficient members to obtain water and overtake us.
Pacing continued to be a problem, however, as the disparity between those who came to hike and those
who came to stroll became apparent.
By lunch time at the Big Spring these matters had been resolved and the second leg went very smoothly.
Despite all the humanity in evidence on and around the lake, there was still some wild life astir.
The resident osprey was on the wing and now and then mallard ducks were spotted in secluded fringes
of the lake.
Some of us found room in our tummies for marionberry pie prior to starting the return trip and both
cars stopped at Sahalie Falls to stretch the outing.
Still, all of the following were back in Eugene by 4:30 p.m.: Robin Avidan, Genie Currier,
Phyllis Early, Gladys Grancorvitz, Marie Loome, Leahn McArthur, Vivian Richey, John Shavers,
Margee Wright and Vernon Barkhurst, leader.
