Tenmile Creek (Reedsport)June 20, 1992Two canoes and a sea kayak made up our flotilla on a beautiful sunny Saturday for a leisurely paddle down Tenmile Creek, south of Reedsport. After a coffee and goodies stop at Tomasells Bakery in Elkton, we put in at Tenmile Lake County Park about 11:00 a.m. and paddled toward the sea. The first part of the creek meanders through a lush Amazon-like environment revealing a wealth of wildlife including beavers, ducks, ducklings, blue heron, many other varieties of birds and deer. (No crocodiles were sighted!) The stretch after lunch was more exposed and provided a challenge with strong headwinds, incoming tide and low water. Too much like work! We gave up getting to the sea, turned around and again enjoyed the beautiful day, the green environment and abundant wildlife on the return to our launch site. Participants were Dave Becker in the yellow sea kayak, Dick Moffitt, and Dick’s daughter Paula Allen and her seven-year-old twins Richard and Aaron (who were delightful additions to the group). Mary Battin and Corinne Hunt co-led the trip. |
