North Umpqua Waterfalls
April 18, 1992
Our group of seven Obsidians and five guests left the SEHS parking lot at 8:10 after waiting for
two “no shows”.
We took Hwy. I-5 to Wilber and then over hill and dale on the North Bank Road to Hwy. 138
(North Umpqua Hwy.).
The pastoral scenes on this route were particularly wonderful on this sparkling day.
Sheep, cows, barns, houses and river stood out against the stunning spring green hills,
white Oregon clouds and blue sky.
We climbed to four waterfalls — Fall Creek, Susan Creek, Tokatee and Watson.
Each waterfall is unique.
We were fortunate to view these after recent rains and the water roared down in awesome quantities
and with exceptional force; some trails a little muddy.
It was a beautiful day and worth the distance of 260 miles round trip.
Thanks to drivers Alan Sorenson, Will Clinger, and M. Battin.
Obsidians Virginia Prouty, Marty Hathaway, Gary Marx, Ben Elkus, Allan Sorenson;
guests Dewie Porter, Jeanie Holmes, Ellie & Larry Gruman, and Will Clinger.
Leaders Corinne Hunt and Mary Battin.
