December 14, 1991
Fog sat heavily over Eugene as our hopeful group departed.
At Lowell the sun appeared and warmed our windshields.
The long uphill climb took us first along Deception Creek, then through a replanted clear-cut (sunny)
and lastly into deep, mossy forest.
At the Butte’s summit we dined in the bright winter sun.
The leader had been sick for two weeks so she lead from the rear and arrived at the top 15
minutes behind the group.
This is definitely a hike worth repeating.
The trail is steep and slick in some places and needs some maintenance here and there.
Overall, the uphill grade is moderate.
Hikers were Susan & Lorraine Mombert, Bill Hemphill, Gary Marx, Chuck & Sandy Reul
and Susan Baker (leader).
