Santiam Pass/Five LakesMarch 10, 1991The leader, Dot Leland, delighted to have good weather, great snow and ten enthusiastic companions to enjoy this favorite ski trip with her. Thanks – Dan Bates, Genie Currier, Allen DeBuhr, Diana Gardener, Carol Horvath, Lynne Isaacson, Anne Montgomery, John Pilafian, Hank Plant, and Wes Prouty. Where else can you ski and see five lakes in eight miles? The lakes are all close to FS Road 2079. From the Corbett Sno-Park we made a short stop at Link Lake then drove to Torso Lake where we had lunch. Here the sun came out and we had time to ski up and down a hill close by. On the way back we passed Meadow Lake, the largest lake, and turned down into lovely Hand Lake. Our final run of the day was to ski up to Island Lake and back down following a snowmobile trail. On this trip you will find open country, a variety of scenery, lakes, streams, few people, occasional snowmobilers (and we saw a dog sled team!). Out to the cars by 3:00, time for refreshments on the way home — all added up to a satisfying, happy day in the snow. |
