Seven skiers were favored with a crystal clear day for a trip to Midnight Lake
This was actually scheduled to be a trip to Fawn Lake, but pre-trip scouting had shown the
Fawn Lake Trail to be extremely icy and downright unpleasant for skiing.
Conditions were considerably better just a few miles away at the opposite end of Odell Lake,
on the trail to Midnight Lake.
The part of the route within dense forest was still very icy, however, and most members of
the expedition exhibited spectacular, unscheduled falling and stopping techniques.
The seven acrobats were Bea Fontana, Diane Jeffcott, Gene Thaxton,
non-members Ed Cope, Lynne Isaacson and Richard Reuter,
and leader Dallas Hemphill.
