Oregon Dunes Overlook

January 19, 1991

We left Eugene’s fog behind as we headed towards Florence and the Oregon Coast. We were greeted by sunshine and blue skies as we headed south from Florence towards the Dunes Overlook parking area. Here we started walking on the one-mile trail to the beach, then along the beach for approximately 2½ miles to our lunch spot at Tahkenitch Creek. We enjoyed watching the ocean and the sandpipers. It was even warm enough for some sun bathing. The incoming tide reached a few boots and one brave hiker chose to walk barefoot on the sand. Our return route followed the post markers back over the dunes to our starting point. We did not see any other people until we were within ½ mile of the end of the walk. Hikers were: Kevin Clark, Audrey Cummings, Jack Engstrom, Shirley Froyd, Sylvia Harvey, Teresa Ladd, Bonnie Manheim, Lorraine and Sue Mombert, Lisa Railsback, Kathy and Parker Riddle, Susan Stewart, Frank Windisch, and Fred and Jean Richardson (leaders).
