Clear Lake Loop
November 3, 1991
This trip was the Clear Lake Loop plus the segment north to the trailhead across from Fish Lake.
This area where the trailhead begins is part of the old Santiam Wagon Road.
The extra two miles is well worth walking for the beauties of the lava, old growth trees and
creek that runs part of the year.
The weather was good and the hikers were a congenial group, making for a very nice day.
There was a little snow remaining from a previous heavy snowfall but the trail was in good shape.
The sun was warming and parted the clouds for views of the North and Middle Sisters,
and Washington and Sand Mountains.
Hikers visited with the caretaker of the Clear Lake Resort and were given permission to use
the warmed outdoor bathroom.
Clear Lake Resort cabins are available in the winter; information may be secured from Howard
or Grace Johnson, 210 Crowfoot Rd., Lebanon, OR. 97355, or by calling 258-7852.
Sharing a good hike were Doris Allen, Barbara Chinn, Lynda Christiansen, Genie Currier,
Ruth Galard, Joanne Haines, Maxine Hall, Nola Kalez, Fredric Kropp, Clare Tucker,
and leader Mary Ellen West.
