Lillian Falls/Waldo Lake
October 13, 1991
This was the leader’s first hike in the Waldo Lake area.
The trail in climbs somewhat steeply, just enough for a good aerobic workout.
Our group ate lunch beside Waldo Lake.
Wind was whipping up some good-sized waves, but the wind and cold water could not stop one member
from taking a brief swim.
After lunch we explored the old tunnel left by engineer Simon Klovdahl.
The descent was easy and swift, leaving us with time to explore Joe Goddard’s Grove, an area
of beautiful old growth forest, including quite a few very impressive western red cedars.
The Warner Creek fire’s smoke cloud showed over Oakridge, but did not pollute the fresh air at
Hikers were Mari Baldwin, Claudia Gottschall, Gladys Grancorvitz, Joanne Haines, Ray Jensen,
Ben Jeffries, Kristen Kaminski, Denise Sevigny, Virginia Thille, Arun Toke and leader Susan Baker.
