Iron Mountain/Cone Peak
June 15, 1991
Left the S.E.H.S. parking lot 8:15 a.m. Arrived at trail head 10:40.
Took the Iron Mountain Trail to start with and came back the Cone Peak Trail.
I believe this is a bit easier than the reverse.
From the lookout the group saw a black bear grazing in a meadow.
The day was partly cloudy but was very nice for hiking.
We saw numerous wild flowers in the high meadows coming back on the Cone Peak Trail.
The old trail head to Iron Mountain has been changed slightly.
You can now park about half-a-dozen cars near the trail head, which is located .3 mile off
the highway on a small service road.
Priscilla Jamesen was a visitor from Cape Town, South Africa.
There was some switching of rides coming back, therefore gas monies for the trip did not get
Hence I suggest, to prevent this confusion, the collection for the trip fee should be made in
advance as we do for the fee.
We should again stress to Obsidians that they should use the trail, and do not take short cuts.
