Roman Nose/Kentucky FallsMay 25, 1991Six hikers set out in uncertain weather at 0815. We arrived at Roman Nose at 0945 and walked the half-mile to the lookout. It was cool and cloudy but we had good views to the east. There was a large drift of lambs tongue lilies in the meadow near the lookout. We then drove to the trailhead for Kentucky Falls, arriving at 1045. A few drops of rain fell as we set out but it soon stopped. On the trail, we saw many wildflowers, birds, and a newt. We reached the lower double falls at 1150 and admired the view while eating lunch. We started back at 1230, meeting a few parties on the trail, and got to the cars at 1350. We returned to Eugene on almost dry roads, reaching SEHS at 1540. On the hike were Ben Elkus, Judy Forell, Mary Gleason, Scott Bicker, Susan Stewart and Joel McClure, leader. |
